Our exciting May concert, Inspirations, will feature Maria Flurry on marimba, Chris Jacome on flamenco guitar, Lena Jacome as flamenco dancer, and special guest Toni Tennille as narrator. We are looking forward to presenting these popular, crowd-favorite performers.  This concert will feature the following pieces:

Constellations to Composition by selected Prescott youth
This piece will be the result of Arizona Philharmonic’s outreach program, in collaboration with the Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium. Under the guidance of musicians associated with Arizona Philharmonic, groups of youth will have the opportunity to compose orchestral music inspired by constellations. A selection of those will be chosen to become this suite for orchestra.

Frederick’s Fables by Michael Abels
Toni Tennille, Narrator
This is a narrated set of orchestral pieces based on four of Leo Lionni's stories about Frederick the Mouse and his friends. Included are the books Frederick, The Greentail Mouse, Theodore & the Talking Mushroom, and Alexander & the Wind-Up Mouse.

Impulso: Symphonic Dances for Marimba, Flamenco Guitar, and Dancer by Henry Flurry and Chris Jacome
with Maria Flurry, marimba; Chris Burton-Jácome, flamenco guitar; & Lena Jácome, flamenco dance.
The concept for Impulso: Concerto for Marimba, Flamenco Guitar, and Dancer has its origins in marimbist Maria Flurry’s interest in commissioning works that meld classical and world music. The resulting four movement work clearly reflects the mixture of classical and flamenco traditions. The arc of the work is inspired by the Spanish gypsy culture and their vibrant art form that evolved under centuries of oppression.

This is the first time this work will have been heard in Prescott in its entirety. Only the third movement Romance with marimbist Maria Flurry and guitarist Chris Burton-Jácome has previously been presented.
